天災頻傳、地緣政治風險升高加上經濟令人擔憂，使消費者更重視旅行社提供的保障，帶動英國人跟團出國旅遊的風氣再起。調查顯示，去年出國玩的英國人有一半以上是跟團。

金融時報報導，英國旅行社協會（ABTA）的研究指出，去年英國出國的觀光客有51%是跟團，比率高於2010年的37%，自助旅行者只占30%，低於2011年的高峰42%。

根據法律，旅行社須負責客戶出國期間的所有大小事，包括保護他們免受天災或地緣政治危機威脅。Hays Travel創辦人海斯（John Hays）回憶2012年颶風珊蒂侵襲美國東岸時，他出錢讓客戶一家人住在紐約一間「很貴的套房」避難。他說：「面臨危機時，人們就會發現跟團的好處。」

2010年冰島艾雅法拉火山爆發，火山灰癱瘓歐洲空中交通多日，導致歐洲許多領空禁飛六天，數千架航班取消；2011年埃及的革命則迫使英國旅行社撤離在埃及的遊客。去年與德國母公司合併成途易集團（TUI Group）的途易旅遊（TUI Travel）估計，這兩起事件帶來的損失為1.53億英鎊，另一家旅行社Thomas Cook則估為1.33億英鎊。

突尼西亞觀光勝地蘇塞（Sousse）6月底遭恐怖攻擊，造成38人死亡，其中30名為英國籍旅客，因此對英國旅遊業帶來的震撼更大。儘管這與上述兩起事件不同，因為英國外交及聯邦事務部（FCO）未警告不宜前往突國，但途易集團和Thomas Cook還是自動撤離了在突國的自家客戶。

世界旅遊觀光委員會（WTTC）另指出，這起攻擊事件勢必使突尼西亞損失慘重，觀光客貢獻突國約15%的經濟產值。北非和土耳其政治情勢緊張，使伊比利半島上傳統的陽光沙灘景點人潮增加。
